MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the above board was held in the road board office, Peel Forest, on Friday last. The members present were—The Hon. J. B. A. Acland (chairman), Messrs Q-. J. Dennistoun, and B. Thdw. ; The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. The following correspondence was read ahd dealt with:— From the Audit Office, Wellington, requesting the payment, of £l, cost of auditing the board’s accounts for the past year.—The amount was passed for payment. From the clerk to the Levels Eoad Board, requesting the board’s cooperation in the destruction of small birds.—No action was taken. From Mr T. Jefcoate, calling the hoard’s attention to the dangerous state of the road leading from his land on Baindliff Downs to ’ Fairlie Creek, and requesting that it be' improved and put in good repair*—After some consideration , it was decided to call tenders for the work.
From the Chief Surveyor, forwarding the draughtsman’s receipt for cost of plotting the district map. : From Mr GK F. Newman, intimating that he had sold his property at Peel Forest to Mr J. Bae, and requesting that his name be removed from the valuation roll in respect of such property.—The clerk to obtain Mr Bae’s sanction to the alteration. From the residents in the Arundel Village Settlement, requesting the board to improve the reads leading to their several properties.—The overseer was directed to inspect the roads and report at next meeting^ From the North Canterbury Charitable Aid Board, forwarding statement of accounts for the past year. From Mr C. G. Tripp, in reference to the circumstances connected with the alteration of road line through his property, Orari Downs. From the Eailway Eeform League, soliciting the hoard’s support and assistance in carrying out the objects of the league. From the Hon. J. B. A. Acland, suggesting the advisability of permanently marking on the ground certain lines of road surveyed, but at present not formed or used, in order to avoid the necessity of having them surveyed at some future time.—The overseer was directed to attend to the matter.
From Mr A. Hawdon, tendering hia resignation as a member of the board. —The board expressed regret at Mr
jHawdon’s resignation.—The chairman [stated that on receipt of the resignation he had forwarded instructions to |the clerk to proceed with the election !of a member to fill the vacancy, j The clerk was instructed to write to the Chief Surveyor asking if bridle , tracks at present made through Crown lands had been reserved as public jroads, or would be reserved in the levent of the land being purchased at kny future time. | Accounts amounting to £67 2s lid were passed for payment. I The board then adjourned.
