Thursday Island, Oct. 16.
Eastern news per the British India Company’s steamer states that a practically inexhaustible coal field has been opened up at Tonking, and upwards of 1000 coolies are employed in tbe gallery. The Board of Revenue in China'pm. pose to issue a foreign loan of thirty-five million taels for the purpose of constructing a railway to connect Pekin and Hankow. The work is to be completed in eight years.
