GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
A special meeting of this board was held on Wednesday evening last. Present— -Messrs W. S. Maslin (chairman) J. Williams, A. Sherratt, E. Taylor, A. White, J. M undell, and N. Dunlop. ' . ~ A statement prepared by the finance committee of the proposed expenditure of the board for the period of the rate about to be struck was considered and approved of. ENGINE SHED. The works committee reported having arranged with Mr J. A. Quinn for a site for an engine shed for the fire brigade en the section leased by him from the board. The site was almost opposite the Masonic Hall. The selection was approved of, and the •clerk was instructed to make the necessary agreement and get it signed, JPIEE ENGINE. It was decided to advertise in the Timaru Herald, Lyttelton Times, and Otago Daily Times for a fire engine and hose reel. miscellaneous. The works committee further reported that as instructed they had visited the spots where applications had been made for water and had given the necessary instructions for the work where desirable. The work reouired to carry the water to tbe park had been done by the working foreman. Mr D. application could not be entertained.
The aide of the race near Mr Boutcher’s was found to need strengthening, and it was suggested that asphalt be laid to prevent the scour.—Decided to adopt the suggestion. The question of making crossings at the Anglican Church and Post Office was left for the next meeting, Messrs Maslin, Taylor, 6herratt, and Mundell were appointed a sub-com-mittee to report on the advisability of bringing the water down the west side of the street.' Messrs Taylor and Sherratt were authorised to pass the firewood and posts now being cut in the bush when the work was done. The meeting then terminated.
