ACCIDENTS, ETC.

A fatal accident occurred at Gay’s livery stables; Nelson, on Friday afternoon, by which a man named Robert Bright was killed. He was employed at the stables, and had been exercising a horse. When at the stable door he placed his hand on the horse, and it kicked out and struck him on the fore-: head and neck. He never spoke after-’ wards. He was removed to the: hospital, but died on his arrival there.; Bright was formerly a jockey. He was forty years old. He leaves a Vwidow and five children. ' A serious shooting affray took place at Wadestown, Wellington, on Saturday afternoon. l . Thomas Boyles Gambull and J. A. Stuart Morton, quarrelled as to the right of the latter to drive cattle along a road in the district. On Saturday J. A. Smith, nephew of Morton, was driving cattle’ along this road when Gambull stopped him arid after a short argument, shot on® cow with a double-barrelled grin. On Smith remonstrating, Gambull shot him in the right leg above the knee, Gambull was arrested, and Smith was taken to the hospital. Gambull asserts the shooting was accidental, His story is that Smith attempted to assault him with a piece of wood, a struggle ensued, and Smith caught' hold of the barrels of the gun, and in attempting to wrench it from him it went off. Gambull, who is an elderly mao, was remanded for; a week. Smith is a young man of 21, and is progressing favourably, Mervyn Hutoe, a boy of five years, son of Mr Janies Hume, of the Bank of Hew Zealand, Hamilton (Auckland), was choked by a folding chair closing on his throat. The doctor resorted to tracheotomy to save his life, i but failed.
