The Marquis of Hartington, speaking in Yorkshire, said that if the result of the next general election was the return of a Home Rule majority, the Unionists would comjpel the country to reconsider the question, and use every resource the Constitution allowed to prevent so great a change being parried ly made. Melbourne, Sept. 9. The funeral of the late Mr Francis Ormond, M.L.0., took place yesterday. There was an immense cortege. Sydney, Sept, 9. William Dobell and two boys have been murdered by natives at the Solomon Islands. Dobell’s brother was murdered recently.

Arrived—American barque Hesper, from Puget Sound. She reports that the barque Garston, bound from Sydney to San Francisco, has been wrecked at Staarbuck Island. The chief officer and twenty of the crew reached Humfrey Island, . The captain of the Hesper offered to bring ten of the men on to Sydney, and waited for 14 boars for that purpose, bnt the men apparently decided not to separate. The captain and nine of the crew are missing. Sept, 10.

An extraordinary hot day was experienced throughout Geelong yesterday. It was the hottest day which has occurred in the month of September for thirty years. Two armed men, near Orange, captured seven travellers, and, haring bound them, stole all their money and valuables. After a detention of two hours the travellers were released. One of the men has been arrested, Brisbane, Sept. 10. Feaful reports are coming to band of sickness at the Sndest Goldfields in New Guinea.
