B; D. Orchard, an Auckland sharebroker and commission agent, has been committed for trial on five charges of forgery of promissory notes, the aggregate amount of the notes being £l6O. Up to' the present time no one has announced his intention of opposing Mr Hislop for the Oamaru seat, although there is a rumor that one of the defeated candidates at the last election will come forward. He now says that he rupudiates it and regards its passing as a most ill-advised, unacademic, and insulting proceeding and ini a disciplinary aspect it seem more like the set of a big bully gripping your throat, than the aet of the supreme governing body of a respectable university.
