MAGIC LANTERN ENTERTAINMENT.

1 The Rev. Mr Dickson gave a splendid magic lantern entertainment last evening in the Volunteer Hall, Temuka, to a crowded house. The views opened with Sir Walter Scott’s monument in Edinburgh, after which a large number of streets, public and ancient buildings, and interesting scenes were exhibited and described. These were supplemented by a few comic sketches, after which the audience were taken via Gibraltar, Malta, the Suez Canal, etc., to India and China, the Rev. Mr Christie, who has recently passed through these places, giving lucid descriptions of them. Scenes from Athens, Russia, etc., were shown, as well as more comic pictures, and then was given a splendid collection of astronomical views, descriptive of the solar system. All the planels, were shown; sun and moon were eclipsed, and n groat deal of very interesting and useful information given. More comic pictures wound up with a Good Night. The entertainment was really enjoyable. The machine worked splendidly, the light was excellent, and the views came out very clear, so clear that nothing more could be desired. The Rev, Mr Dickson will appear in the Waitohi schoolroom on the sth of September, and we can assure our readers it will be well worth their while to sen his show.
