AFFAIRS IN CRETE.
London, August 9. A party of Mabditaedans having shot an Italian soldier dead outside Candia, the capital of Crete, the Italian Government has ordered a warship to proceed there and demand satisfaction. The Christian majority of the Cretan Assembly are arming against the Mahommedans, who are leading a revolt. Greece has sent a formal Note threatening to interfere unless order is restored, and. the Greek flefct is ordered to be in readiness to proceed to Crete, The English Government, replying to the Note, discourages any action being taken, Turkey declines to agree to mediation, and Niamil Pasha, Grand Vizier, made a demand to Greece for an explanation of her Note to the Powers. The Porte has issued a proclamation declaring Crete to be in a state of Beige, The Powers have replied to the Note from Greece, and given an assurance that they will quell the insurrection in Crete.
