AUCTIONEERS' REPORT.

TIMAKU. Messrs Grade, Maclean and Co. report for the past fortnight, ending Saturday, as follows: Horses —At the Timaruhorse bazaar, on the 27th ult., a few good draughts were entered, and sold under brisk competition at up to £25 each. Today, a consignment from Mr Robert Gawn, Mosgiel, Otago, of useful draughts were eagerly enquired after, and all sold as under: Hacks: There are no hacks op light-harness of the quality beyond weeds and screws offering. We quote medium to good draughts at from £l9 to £26—the latter price being for a very nice quality mare, one of Mr Gawn's lot; inferior, £8 to £l3 10s; hacks, medium, up to £9los. Sheep—At Washdyke yards the entries of all classes are still small, and parties in search of 7 lines for feeding off are compelled to seek 1 ; elsewhere for them. A considerable 1 amount of business has been done in; freezers throughout the district during! the fortnight, but it is much to be i regretted that the heavy consignments! of live stock now being sent to,workS| both north and south of tFimaru could! not be manipulated on the spot. We sold 74 merino wethers) at lis to; lis Bd, 73 crossbred ewes at 10s 9d to lis 6d, 75 hoggets at 9s 3d, 30 erossbred ewes at 10» 9d. We also placed privately 3000 freezers, 430 2-tooth crossbreda, 395 half bred ewes, i Cattle-—Any lines of fat cattle coming to hand meet a brisk market, but, owing to the small entries at Washdyke, butchers have been purchasing privately. A few pens of 1 good stores came forward on the Ist inst., but there was very little demand. We sold 2 cows at £4 17s 6d, 2 do at I £4 ss, 2 steers at £2 17« 6d, 2 do at £2, 7 prime bullocks at equal to 18s per 1001 b, and privately we disposed of 50 prime bullocks at the same quotation. Skins —At our sale on the 24th July the usual buyers were present. Competition was brisk, and full values were realised. Best country skins sold at from 4s to 5s 6d; second, 8s to 3s 9d; light, 2s to 2s 6d; 3 fadges (pieces), at 4£d to sd. We also sold privately 3804 factory skins at satisfactory prices. Property On Saturday last we offered at our rooms on account of Mr Duncan Scott his farm of 75 acres, near Arowhenua, and, as the land and situation are excellent, the parties interested fully expected a lively competition, and they were not disappointed. The property was started at £lB per acre, and advanced by 10s bids to £24, at which price it fell to the nod of Mr M. Gaffaney.

AUSTRALIAN MARKETS.

Sydney, August 3. Breadatuff deliveries for the week are 386 tons of flour and 100 tons of wheat from Adelaide; 901 tons of flour and 51 tons of wheat from New Zealand; 227 tons of wheat from Victoria.

ENGLISH MARKETS.

London, August 1. New Zealand frozen mutton, sd; lamb, 7d; Sydney mutton, 4|d. Beef —]?orequarters,3d; hindquarters, 4|d. At the auctions to-day, 1400 bales of New Zealand hemp were sold at prices ranging from £25 for ordinary quality, to £2B 5s to £3llos for good sorts.

August 2. New Zealand 4 per cent, inscribed stock, 106|, with an active market. Australian wheat, ex warehouse, 39s 6d, market steady; New Zealand, 395, market firm. Sugar, German beet, 20s; Java, 22s 6d. No. 1 best .Scotch pig iron, f.o.b. in the Clyde, 45s 6d.

August 3. The tallow market is quiet, but prices remain steady. Best mutton, 27s to 27s 6d; best beef, 26s 6d to 275. An Australian cargo of wheat has been sold at 345.
