The centenary of the taking of the Bastille was celebrated in London yei-r terday by the friends of Boulanger! Information has reached here that Lady Mary Acton, eldest daughter of Lord Acton, of Shropshire, has committed suicidh by throwing herself into' the Sergensee, one of the lakes in Bavaria. Count Blumenthal, attache to the British Ambassy at Munich, on bearing of the fatality shot himself dead. Various stories are afloat, and the death of the lady has caused a great ( sensation throughout England' and also on the Continent. Mr Garland, member for Oarcoar, New South Wales, at a .meeting in Dublin, declared it probable that Mr Henry George’s system of land taxation would be adapted in that colony. The Bill granting responsible Government to Western Australia has passed through Committee. Paris, July 16. The Senate has closed its session after passing the Bill limiting the number of candidates at elections, but without voting the 58,000,000 of francs for the i navy which the Lower Chamber sanctioned, because the latter closed its session without; intimating its intention to the Senate. M. de Roulede was arrested while haranguing a meeting of Boulangists, bat the crowd rescued him from the hands of the police, Berlin, July 16. The Emperor William, who is now on a trip to Norway, had a narrow escape of being killed by falling ice while visiting the Buarbare glacier. Zanzibar, July 14. Captain Wiseman, the German comraander, has bombarded and occupied Panju. New York, July 14. The New York Herald states that Mr J. G. Blaine, Secretary of State lor the United States, has resigned on account of his health, and will retire in September. Ibis has been officially denied. It has been found that Sullivan’s arrest was illegal, and he has consequently been released. July 15. Terrific rain storms have been experienced in New York State, and nine bridges have been washed away.

Sydney, July 15. Arrived Mararoa, Sailed Ringarooma. The miners at Mount Kemble have struck. July 16. A remarkably rich find of silver is reported from the Central Mine, Broken Hill. Specimens show 3400zs to the ton. Brisbane, July 15. The Maori football team beat Queensland by 22 points to nil. July 16. The Maori team beat 18 of Toowoomba by 16 points to nil.
