TIMARU A. AND P. ASSOCIATION.

A special meeting of the Timaru Agricultural and Pastoral Association was held on Saturday afternoon. Over thirty members were present, and Mr McLaren was voted to the chair. The meeting was called to consider a proposal contained in a circular from the Hawkes Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Society, asking similar societies to join in urging the Ministry to introduce a Bill this session, imposing an annual fee of £lO upon all entire horses over three years; all fees so collected to be given as annual premiums on sire horses standing in the district in which the fees are collected. After some discussion it was resolved on the motion of Mr Wareing—" That all entire horses- used for stud purposes be taxed to the extent of £lO per annum,, in accordance with, the recommendation of the Hawkes Bay Association,'-'

At a committee meeting held afterwards, an apology from the President, Mr A. M, Clark, for non-attendance, was received and accepted. The Canterbury Association/-wrote drawing attention to the great inconvenience which the judges at the various shows experienced last year owing to the shows following one another so closely. The North Otago (Oamaru) Association wrote urging the advisability that closer uniformity should exist in regard to the clothing classes in Leicester, Lincoln, and merino sheep; —The letter was held over till next meeting. Mr B. R. Macdonald was unanimously elected a member of the Association.

The secretary, Mr F. "W. Stubbs, mentioned the , matter of canvassing for subscriptions, and it was resolved —" That a committee of the following members be appointed to canvass the district for funds for increasing the prizes at the next show ©f the association, namely, Messrs Stevenson, Davie, Irvine, A. Grant, J. Kuther ford, Cartwright, Hay, Macpherson Pringle, Teschemaker, Kelland, the president, and the vice-president." Mr Goldie suggested that horses in the draught, thoroughbred, and other classes be allowed to leave the ground on the day of the show during the time that the jumping competition (for hunters) is being carried out, the gates being then quite clear of people. The meeting then terminated.
