TEMUKA TOWN BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the above board was held last night. Present—Messrs Gray (chairman), Blyth, Mason, Ooira, and Clinch. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed, CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows : Erom Mr W. G-. Aspinall giving information as to properties for which he was agent and the liabilities of owners thereto for rates etc. Erom D. Charteris, asking that hie name might be placed on the roll in respect of Sections No. 327 and 328, Birkett street, at present in the name of Dr. Hayes.—Agreed to, subject to the latter's consent being obtained. Erom the Secretary Exhibition Committee, asking for a. return of subscription lists and any amounts collected.—Lists to be returned. Erom the clerk to the G-eraldine County Council stating that he had given instructions to the registrars in the Temuka Hiding not to register dogs in the town boundary and also that the registers were available for inspection. The letter furthermare stated that any amounts received would be refunded to the board, the same conditions to apply to the Town Board.

Erom the same arranging for a meeting of the respective registrars of the Temuka and Arowhenua 'Town Boards, and of the Temuka Riding, Greraldine County.

From the Auditor-General returning certified copy of balance sheet. Prom Mr W. G\ Agpinall, as agent for Mr J. Essery, taking exception to the amount charged for asphalting in front of the latter's property.—The clerk to arrange with Mr Moynahan, the contractor.

From the clerk to the County Council covering copy of agreement made between the respective registrars of dogs in the district. The agreement was to the effect that no dogs should be registered outside of their respective districts, and in case such should be. done the amounts to be refunded to the boards interested. From Dr J. 8. Hayes, stating that until he had read the report of the board's last meeting he was unaware that there existed a cesspit on sections 271 and 272, Alnutt Street. He did not object to provide a pan if application came from tenant, but he resented the action of the board's officious servant. As soon as he was aware of the existence of a cesspit he had had the matter remedied at once. He congratulated the board upon the fact that such an important matter as the nightsoil question was now in a fair way of being properly dealt with. He further asked that as an unwitting breach of the law on his part had been published a statement of the reason might also be given publicity to.—The clerk resented the remarks relative to officiousness, and read the correspondence on the subject.—The board were of opinion that no undue officiousness had been resorted to, and the clerk had ouly acted up to instructions. From Mr J. Brown, applying to have the names of Messrs Williams and Colville substituted for his m respect of section in Main Street now in their occupation. Prom Messrs Sturrock and Co., Timaru, offer to supply a road scraper if required—The offer was declined with thanks.
