AUCTIONEERS' itEPORT. GEUALDINB. Messrs Webster and Macdonald reports as follows on the. Qeraldme fortnightly stock sale: — We have again to report upon the good tone prevailing in this market. Our fortnightly sales are keeping up the name they began with. Last Wednesday was no exception either in quality or numbers. The total number yarded for the duy was 4500, of which number we offered 2700. Fat sheep maintained their own, and realised up to about 2£d per lb. Stores were iu.< in such great demand, though hoggets met with a ready sale, good lines fetching up to 9s 4d. OHRISTCHUB-OH STOCK MARKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday, the entries were large, except in the case of pigs. Fat Cattle—A very large entry, but, as the quality was decidedly above the average, late prices were fully maintained. A line of superior cattle topped the market at prices rangmg up to £8 10s. Heifers sold at £6 10s, and cows up to £5. Another nice line went up to £7 10s. Dairy Cattle —Best cows, in full profit, sold up to £6, and inferior ones from £2 10s to £5. Calves—Best vealers went up to 30s, and inferior ones from 10s to 20s. Fat Sheep—There was an unusually large entry, comprising one or two lines of first-cl»as quality. The market was topped by a pen of wethers, which went as high as 17s 6d per head. At the start of the sale bidding was fairly brisk, but later ; on it dragged considerably, and prices fell. Best wethers went from 15s to 17s 6d; inferior do, from 10s to 14s 6d ; best ewes sold up to 14s, but merinos were not much in demand. The N.Z. and A. Land Co. sold for Mr A. M. Clark Arowhenua Estate), 88 wethers at 14s9d, 35 ewes at 14s, 63 do at 13s lOd, 30 do at 13s 3d. Store Shsep—Crossbred ewes sold up to 8s 9d, and wethers up to Bs. Pigs—Baconers sold extremely well, at prices ranging from 35s to 555. Prices for porkers fell Blightly. DUNEDIN PRODUCE MARKETS. The following is the report for the week ending Wednesday : Wheat—This cereal still continues to command very little attention at the hands of the millers, who even at reduced rates can only be tempted to operate on the most limited scale. Inferior sorts are unsaleable, except at fowls' feed rates. Good whole fowls' wheat is in fair demand at satisfactory prices. Prime milling tuscan may be quoted nominally at 3s lOd to 3s lid; velyet, 3s 9d to 3s lOd; medium class wheats, quiet, id per bushel below these rates; inferior, 3s 6d to 3s 7d. Chick wheat is worth 3a 2d to 3s 3d; anything extra, 3s 4d—sales being readily made at the two first-mentioned figures. Oats—These show a large falling off in supplies. Prices, which for several weeks past have ranged up as high as 3s per bushel for prime milling lines, and 2s 10|d for good feed sorts, have become a little easier during, the last week. Present quotations are: For prime milling, 2s lOd to 2s lid; best short feed, 2s 9d to 2s 10s; medium, 2s 8d to 2s 9d; inferior, 2s 7d to 2s Bd. Barley is still very slow of sale, only extra fine samples being at all saleable. Prime malting, 3s 7d to 3s 9d; medium to good, 3s to 3s 4d. Potatoes The market remains steady at about last week's quotations. We quote prime northern, 85s to 87s 6d; southern, 77s 6d to 82s 6d per ton, sacks in. / Grass Seeds —Ryegrass ■ Farmers' lots, 2s 9d to 6d ; machine-dressed, 3s 6d to 4s 3d. Cocksfoot, 3d to 3|d. Pigs—Well-fed, up to 180ib, 4d to 4|d; hams, Bid to 9d ; flitches and rolls, 6|d. Chaff—Well-cut, heavy oaten, £4; light, £3 10s to £3 15s; straw do, £2. Onions, £25; turnips, 17s to 20s ; carrots, 40s. Straw (oaten and wheaten), 40s hay (oaten, clover and ryegrass), 70s Butter Prime salt, no demand, nominally 9d (kegs extra). Eggs —This week scarcer. Honey, 4?d to 4<hd for extracted. Cheese Temuka factory, s|d ; loaves, 6|-d. Akaroa, sd; loaves, s^d, Sheepskins —On Monday, good picked lines of green crossbred skins suitable for mats sold at from 4s 9d to 5s sd; average crossbreds, 3s lOd to 4s 6d ; inferior to medium, 3s 3d to 3s 8d; green merinos, 2s 6d to 3s 6d; lambskins, 2s lOd to 3s 6d; dry country crossbreds, Is 3d to 4s—a few picked skins at beyond this figure; merinos, Is 6d to ss. Hides—Prices at present average ub to 2|d for heavy-weights ; medium, 2d to 2id; light classes, 2d ; inferior and bulls', ljd to If d per lb.
