SOIREE AT WAITOHI.

A soiree and sacred concert in connection with the Presbyterian Church, was held in the Waitohi Flat Schoolroom on Friday evening last. The evening, although somewhat cold, was beautifully fine, and as a consequence a large number were present, many coming from Temuka and Pleasant Point. The provisions wore supplied from the establishment of Mr T, Barr, Temuka, which is a sufficient guarantee t|*at they were a|l that coqld he desired, and the tables were presided over by Misses M. Scott, A. Stocker, McKinnon, and C. Cunningham. At 6.3 Q p.m. grace vfas pronounced by the Sev. J, Dickson, and then the well filled plates of the good things provided began rapidly to disappear before the keen appetites of those present. Tea over, $$ rpom tyas re-arranged for the qf|er. meeting. The chair was occupied by the Bev. J. Dickson, Temuka, and on the platform was the Key. W. Whyte, of Pleasant Ponit. 1

, IM " ' ' i*" 1 '■'■nil The concert opened by the audience singing the hymn “Rejoice in the Lord.” During the evening a very choice selection of hymns from Saotey’s collection was admirably rendered by the Ternuka, choir under the able leadership of Mr W. Q-. Eutland, Miss Blyth presiding at the harmonium. Amusing,' interesting and instructive addresses were delivered by the rev, gentlemen nresent, and solos con* tributed by Messrs McCaskill, Storey, and Lyall were remarkably well received. ... , At the close of the'concert** Eraser rose and proposed a hearty rote of thanks to the speakers and to the choir who had discoursed such grand music to them that evening. -He said the singing was undoubtedly of a first class order, and must have been a great treat to those who bad had the pleasure of listening to it. He hoped that the concert, which had just been concluded, was only tbe first of many that should follow. Mr Rutland briefly responded on behalf of the choir. The singing of the doxology brought a very pleasant evening to a close. The room was then cleared and dancing was indulged in for, a few hours. It is to be distinctly under?stood that the dance was quite independent of the sacrsd concert.
