8.0. RUGBY UNION. A meeting of the South Canterbury Sugby Union Was hold in tho Wallingford Hotel on Saturday evening, -vitao the following delegates were , pwaa-.fc—-Meaara Flint, in the chair, and Yylvin (Xemuka), Mstheson and A. Perry (Timaru), Iln-te (Waihi), and MoLesa (Wuimate). A letter was received from the North Otago Union, challenging tho South Canterbury Union to a match on the 13fch July, and the same was accepted. Fitzgerald, E, Smith, Lavery (2), Gooch, Bolstou, Wagstsff, MoLsod | (2), Lewis, Cameron, Oxby, Perceval, T. Gray, aud Black. A meeting was hold in the Volunteer Hall, Geraldine, on Saturday evening last, with a view to forming a junior club for Geraldine. There were about 20 young men present MrJ J. Hisbens waa voted to tho chair, and explained the objjot of the meeting. It was decided to form a club, to be called tho Waihi Juniors.- The following officers were appointed-—President, _Mr fl. W. Moore; Vice*Presidents,.Mewra S. 'Buxton, J. Cunningham, It, H. Poarpofut, Dr Fish, A. White, and H. N. Hiskens; captain Me B. Morrison; vice-captain, Mvß. Millard; (secretary aud treasurer, .Mr H. Smith; general committee, Messrs J. Pifieid, J. Brown, 3. Baughen, H. Fly, aud J. J. Hiskanoj selection committee, Messrs E. Millard, R. Morrison, and H, Smith. It was decided that the club's colors should be red, white, and blue, and tha subscription 3s par annum. All present became members, It was decided to hold the first practice on Thursday next, and tho meeting terminated. The New Zealand native team played Now South Wales at Sydney on Saturday under the Rugby rules. Beautiful weather was experienced, and it,.is estimated that fully 10,000 persona were present to watch the match tho match. The game was woll contested, end the Maoris won by 12 points (4 tries) to 9 VicSinta (1 goM from a try and 1 potted g-ui!).
