THE WELLINGTON MURDER.
Wellington, June 10. The Jury empanelled to enquire into the cause of death of Thomas Hawkins, whose body was found 00 the night of the May near his house covered with gunshot wounds and stabs, resumed tbeir labours to-day. Mr Bunuey, solicitor, who appeared fir Louis Cherois, the man arrested op suspicion, suggested that in fairness to bis client no further evidence should be taken, but that the Jury should return an open verdict, leaving further investigation for the Magisterial Court on Friday next, to which day Cbemis was remanded. Mr 8011, who appeared for the Crown, acquicetced, inasmuch as any additional evidence proposed to be offered that day would be merely a corroboration of that already given. The coroner agreeing that an open verdict would meet the ends of justice summed up, pointing out that deceased’s death was undoubtedly due to tbs acts of a murderer. The jury found a verdict that Hawkins wae murdered by some person unknown.
