Sofia. April 23
Three men entered the house of ai surgeon, resident in the city, and murdered his mother and neice. No motive is assigned for the tragedy, which was carried out with great atrocity.

A man named Bonvay haß has been arrested on a charge of beating his wife to death.
Brisbane, April 23
News has been received from New Guinea, to the effect that Togari, the head of a hunting tribe in the island, had murdered an Englishman, a Swede, and a Malay, all of whom were engaged at the beche de mcr fishery,
Napieb, April 22.
The Herald's Wairoa correspondent wires that a shepherd's house at Mahia, on the run belonging to Mr George Ormond, has been discovered burned to the ground, with the remains of a man, supposed to be that of Gollan, a shepherd, in the debris. As suspicious circumstances were reported, Mr Large, J.P., who has gone up to hold an inquest, is accompanied by Detective Grace and Dr. Wilkinson. Gisboene, April 22,
News has reached hereof a horrible murder committed on the Mahia Peninsula. A man named Robert Gollan has been murdered by a halfcaste named Makaore, GolUn’s remains were found amongst the ruins of his whare, which had been destroyed, at Table Cape. On the night of the murder Makaore left his home, and his young brother-in-law being frightened of being at home in the dark, followed a short distance behind; Makaore was heard to fire three shots. The appearance of the ground around Gollan’s whare showed that the bleeding body had been dragged into the whare, which had been burnt. The motive assigned :is jealousy, Makaore has often expressed himself in jealous terms of Gollan on account of a Maori woman with whom he was living, and of whom Makaore was deeply enamoured. The other day he offereda Maori £lO if he would’bring the woman to him. The police are at Mahia, and Makaore has been arrested. Apr?! 23. No fresh particulars are to hand in connection with the murder at Mahia Peninsula. The inquest has been adjourned until Thursday to enable evidence to be worked up. The Maori woman, with whom the murdered man was living, was away at Gisborne when the crime was committed. She says that the halfcaste Makaore was jealous of Gollan, and that consequently there was great bitterness between them.
Dtjnediit, April 23. Mrs.Semb, a patient at the hospital, jumped from the bathroom window'.on' to the pavement below, sustaining severe injuries to her head. Mrs 'J aggart, wife of a wellknown stablekeeper, was thrown from a dogcart this evening, and she alighted on her head in front of one of the wheels, which passed over her. She never recovered consciousnes, and died shortly afterwards in the hospital. The horse she was driving bolted.
