DISASTROUS FIRES.
New York,'April 20.
Wilcox's lard refinery, elevators, warehouse, etc., extending for half a mile on the river front, wjre destroyed by fire. This is 'he largest fire which has visited New York f<r years. The loss is estimated at 3,000,)00 dollars. April 22.
By a fire at Westedi, Wisconsin, L 5.000 people have been nndered homeless.
Melbourne, April 22.
A disastrous fire broke out at 5.30 this evening in the Bijou 'lheatre, which, along with tho Palace Hdel adjoining, was destroyed. The fire vas still burning at 10 o'clock, but was inder control. The scarcity of water was severely felt, and the Brigades were rendired helpless. Three firemen were killed by a falling wall and three others were seriously injured. It is believed that the damage will.exceed £BO,OOO, but owing to'the holiday no accurate information can be obtained.

Further particulars of the fire at the Bijou Theatre show that it broke out in the dress circle. The theatre was* speedily destroyed, but the Palace Hotel, in front, faciDg Bourke Street, was saved, though considerably damegod by water. W, Marshall's theatrical printer's premises adjoining were also burned down. Captain. Parsons, of the Easlf Melbourne Fire Brigade, auc a man \ named Williams were killed by a falling wall, and firemen Kenn, Banks, Scott, and Morris, Lieutenant Thomas, and Constable Coffey, were seriously injured. The loss is estimated at £40,003. Marshall's loss is £6500, Messw Brown and Boucicault, kssces of tht theatre, estimate their personal loss at I £lO 000. They were unioßurad, ihe ! theatre waß insured for £15,000.
