TEMUKA SCHOOL COMMITTEE.
The regular monthly meeting of the Temuka School Committee was held on Tuesday evening. Present—Messrs J. T. M. Hayhurst (chairman), «L Blyth, A. R. Allan, K. P. Gray, Br Brown, and A. M. Clark. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous regular meeting and of a special meeting were read and confirmed. COEEESPONDENCE. Correspondence was read as follows: Prom Mr J. P. Kalaugher, resigning his position as assistant teacher, he having received an appointment in the North Island. He asked the Board to grant him a testimonial—The chairman stated that as soon as the resignation was received the secretary had communicated with the Board of Education, and asked that the usual steps be taken io fill the vacancy. The board had at present taken no action, but he understood they would be prepared to appoint a suitable person recommended by the committee. HEAD MASTER'S EEPOET. The following report was submitted by the head master : “ Gentlemen,—l have the honor to report: Average roll—Boys, 194.6; girls, 168.25; total, 326.75. Average attendance—Boys, 150.8; girls, 141.7; total, 292.5. Highest attendance — Boys, 159 ; girls, 151; total, 310, L» consequence of the resignation of Kalaugher, it will be necessary to appoint a successor, and, as this can scarcely bo arranged so as to hare the new teacher . here by the 30th of April, I would recommend Mr McLeod to be appointed temporarily. “ W. Betaes.” ASSISTANT TEACHEKSHIP.
Mr M. McLeod, formerly pupil . teacher, wrote making application for the post of assistant teacher. He enclosed testimonials and statement of qualifications, which were considered satisfactory,—lt was resolved to recommend Mr McLeod to the Board of Education for the vacancy. In this connection it was also agreed to grant Mr Kalaugherthe testimonial asked for, several members expressing themselves highly satisfied with the progress made by children under his care. v ' MISCELLANEOUS. The secretary submitted the balancesheet of the late concert, from which it appeared that the total receipts were £l3 4s 6d, and the expenditure £4 14s 7d, leaving a credit balance of £8 19s lid. The rough draft of the report to be submitted to the annual meeting of householders was read, and, with some slight additions, approved of. EASTEE HOLIDAYS. It was resolved to close the school from Thursday evening, the 131 b, and reopen on Tuesday, April 30th, tisitoe’s eepoet. The visitor for the month reported that everything appeared to be in good order with the exception of some slight repairs required, which, however, could be done by the janitor.
