London, April 9, la tha House of Commons Lord Henry Bruce, M.P. for the Chippenham division of Wilts, has given notice of • question asking the Admiralty to recognise the services of the Calliope’s officers and crew in saving that yessel in the recent hurricane at Samoa. April 11,

Speaking at a dinner at the Naval Architects’, Lord George Hamilton, First Lord of the Admiralty, said that the courage and ski 1 displayed by Captain Kane and the officers and men of H.M.S, Calliope, on the occasion of the recent hurricane at Samoa, were not rare in the British Navy, and did not deserve any special recognition. Washington, April 9.

It is reported here that Prince Bismftrck has proposed that neither America nor Germany will send any further reinforcements to Samoa, either of ships or troops, ontil the whole question shall have been settled at the Conference on Samoan affairs to be held at Berlin, and that Mr Blaine has agreed to this, J'ho United States delegates to the Samoan Conference sail for Berlin on the 13th inst. April 11. It has been arranged that U.S.S. Alert, the German ship Sophie, and H.M.S. Calliope shall alone represent the Powers at Samoa until the Berlin Conference is over. New York, April 9. It is stated here that Prince Bismarck has refused to receive George Bates as one of the United States delegates to the Samoan Conference. Bismarck’s objection is based on the fact that Bates has written articles attacking Germany’s conduct in Samoa.
