V — OHRKTOHUBCH CORN EXCHANGE,

The Corn Exchange reports for the week ending Friday evening, the 29th inst. :

Business has been more brisk during the past week ; buyers having been more in accord with sellers views as regards wheat, as several orders for Sydney had to be executed by vessels on berth. At the time of writing, however, these orders have all been filled, and dulness again prevails the market. We are certain to have a choppy season. Speculators are averse to lay in large stocks at the figures demanded by growers, and our chief business will be done for prompt orders. Space at the moment for Sydney is limited, but in the course of a few weeks we shall have abundance, when, no doubt, the receiving market ■will be influenced, our prices here being such that there are but few willing to sell at the prices going. Oats are cot coming forward in large quantities, but the demand is not very stiff, our Sydney friends not yet having found tho bottom of their stocks laid in towards the close of last season. Barley has had a good run, but a quieter tone is now noticeable. G-rass Seed has a strong demand for autumn sowing, but cocksfoot is weak at our quotations. Butter is enquired for at our quotations, but buyers say they can purchase on better terms in the North Island. The following are our quotations : Wheat—Prime tuscan, 4s; pearl, 3s lOd ; hunters, 3s 9d ; broken wheat, 2s 9d to 3s 6d, according to quality. Oats—Milling, 2s 7d ; short stout feed, 2s 5d to 2s 6d ; long and inferior, 2a 3d to 2s 4d.

Barley—Prime malting has a fair enquiry at 3s 9d to 3s lOd ; medium quality, however, is neglected at 3s 4d to 3s 7d ; feed, 2s Gd. Beans —A few lines are offering at 3s Gd. but at present no business has been done.

Peas—Feed, 3s to 3s 3d; Prussian blues, 3s 6d to 3s 9d. Grass Seed—Machine-dressed ;»as an enquiry at 3s Gd to 3s 9d, and farmers' lines vary according to qualitv from 2s 6d to 3s. Potatoes—Kidneys, £2 10a to £3 at country stations. Dairy Produce—Butter: prime, 8d ; pastry, 4d. Cheese, 3:}d to 4jd. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.0.b., sacks extoa.
