The shipment of salmon ova by the Atawa to Invercargill has been unpacked and turned out m splendid condition, yielding 35,443 sound eggs. An actual count of live and dead ova shows the proportion of the former to be 87 per cent. The highest on any previous occasion was 73.

Musdbb Willi Oux —The most sensational murder case that ever occurred in that part of the country (says the Cincinnalti Times) has -just been settled at Fort Smith, Ark., by a verdict of guilty as (o Henry W. Miller and "William Woods, two citizens of Donovnn County. On November 25th last Wood* left home with an old schoolmate and friend named John Hantz for a hunt in the Indian Territory. They subsequently picked up a companion in a stranger named Miller, who went with them. They wore gone three months, and were seen in various parts of the Choctaw Nation. When they returned Hantz was missing, and a search party found his body in the Yendegras Hirer with a hole in h» head. His watoh was found in Miller’s pocket. The evidence was purely circumstantial, and the recovery of the body was duo mainly to the devotion of ft pointer dog belonging to the murdered man. The dog refused to leave the place of its masters murder, and bayed continually until 100 weak to move, until the body was found. Both Woods and Millar have been regarded as respeclable citizens, and several prominent (kltorneys defended them.
