AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.

The regular monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held yesterday evening. Present—Messrs Vallender, Ashwell, Frew, and Hayhurst. On the motion of Mr Frew, seconded by Mr Vallender, Mr Hayhurst took the chair. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received as follows : From the Commissioner of t-rown Lands, acknowledging receipt of a communication re illegal fenc'mg. Notica bad been served on the offender. From the Property Tax Commissioner stating that a copy of the new roll had been forwarded to tho clerk, and urging tbeßoardto have same thoroughly examined, so that errors or omissions might be detected and rectified.—lt was resolved that the Clerk take the valuations considered to be too low or out of reason, and report to the Cliairmau prior to the sitting of tho Board of Reviewers.

The Chairman reported that he had seen the Commissioner of Crown Lands in Christchurch re request of the Board for information re amount accruing from land sold. He was informed that the Department did not provide clerical assistance for making special returns. The Board could consult the Act, and calculate amount accruing to them. With i-egard

to the land round the creek when vested in tha Board, any revenue received would be for garden purposes. overseer's report. The overseer's report was read as

follows : I have the honor to report that, in accordance with instructions received at last meeting, notice was served upon the contractor for shingling, and in accordance with that notice work was resumed. The

contract has now been finished, but the time has been considerably exceeded. Tenders have been invited for the erection of a footbridge, and those received will be laid before you. Notice has been served upon two defaulting tenants, and the

necessary legai steps iuiuju hjl u '. Since last meeting one man haß been smploved in spreading shingle for 6 days. Several crossings from Denmark street into the side streets require cutting down. These could be done at a convenient aeason by day labor. . One or two,places in the creek require attention, earth that has fallen in, together with vegetable matter, causing a slight obstruction. The amount received since last board day amounts to £6 14a, A. W. Gaze. lie. shingling contract. The overseer stated that the specified quantity of shingle par diem had nijt been put out. The only actual loss to the board would be extra kbour for spreading. It was resolved to deduct five days' labour from contract amount in preference to enforcing extreme penalty. The chairman remaiked that on a small contract the penalty was quite sufficient. APPLICATION. Mr Lynch personall) applied to have a hole in the road leading to a section occupied by him filled up. It was impassable and dangerous. The overseer reported that Mr Lynch could only get access to the section in question by enlering upoa private or unsold land. It was resolved tuat the work be done at a cost of not more than 20a ; and also tfcat the cost of preparing the crossings suggested in the, report bo gone into and reported upon at the next meeting ; tenders thon to be called for the work. THE FOOTBIUDQB. A plan of the proposed footbridge was submitted. Two tenders were recaived for the work, viz : \ v . Fletcher, £l2 10s; G. Brodeiick, After discussion it was resolved, on the motion of Mr Frew, seconded by Mr Ashwfj|| "That consideration of tbe erecting |of proposed bridge be deferred ibJ definitely."
