GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
The usual monthly meeting of this board was held on Tuesday evening last. Present—Messrs W. S. Maslin (chairman), A. Sherratt, J. Williams, N. Dunlop, J. Mundell and A. White. MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE, Correspondence was read and dealt with as follows, From the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board re board’s recommendations in reference to charitable aid distributed in the district. From Mr M. Burridgo notifying his willingness to take over the lease of the market reserve from Mr G. Bethune as applied for. t From the Minister of Lands, Wellington, ft the board’s application to be allowed to take land in the Waihi river-bed for head . works of water race, and stating that ho considered that section 33 of the Town Districts Act, under which the board was constituted, gave them the requisite authority. From the Geraldine Road Board granting permission to use their road for the race, conditionally that the Town Board Repair any damage done, and keep the road in repair. otebseeb’s report. The overseer’s report was read and considered satisfactory. It was decided to call for tenders for 403 yards of gravel for the streets. FINANCIAL. It was resolved to draw a cheque for £4O, to be placed to the credit of current account. [Sundry accounts were passed for payment, and the board resolved itself into a LOCAL BOARD OF HEALTH. The Inspector of Nuisances report was read, but necessitated no action being taken, and the meeting terminated. ASHBURTON LITE STOCK MARKET. Mr E. G. Staveley, for the New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Limited, reports on the Ashbarton stock sales on Tuesday as follows About 4000 sheep yarded and a few pigs and cattle. Attendance better than of late and fairly good demand. Eat crossbred ewes, 4s 3d, 5s Bd, and 6s 3d; fat merino wethers, 5s Id and ss 3d; fat merino ewes, 4s lid; fat crossbred lambs, 7s 6d and 7s lid; store do, 4s Bd, 5s Bd, and 6s; sound mouthed merino ewes, 3s 7d.
i The ship Oaraaru, Captain Boorman, arrived at Port Chalmers yesterday. She had an uneventful passage of 111 days from London and 91 from the Lizard. She brings 1991 tons cargo, 447 tons of which is for Napier.
