FORTHCOMING SPORTS AT GERALDINE.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —ln reading over your isßue of last Tuesday I noticed that a meeting of those interested in the above sports had taken place. Now that the funds are so satisfactory I would like to make one suggestion re the ments. At last year’s gathering TI was present, but was unable to see the greater part of the performances. When an event was going on the vicinity in which it was taking place was crowded to excess, half of the people being unable to get a glimpse of the sport. In throwing the ham mer a serious accident might have resulted, as the hammer flew off the handle and struck a small boy on the heel of the boot, knocking him over. Again, in the 100 yards race, people crowded on to the tape, and one man was knocked over and rendered unconscious. All this crowding might easily be avoided by putting a rope on the outside of the course right round the oval, and allowing no one inside this rope except the judges and stewards. If this plan was carried out everybody would be able to see all that was going on, and besides they would be free from all , accidents. Should the committee think fit to carry out this plan they would find that it would give tion to all.—l am, etc., ' Athletic.
