GERALDINE SCHOOL COMMITTEE.

I A meeting of this committee was meld in the schoolhouse on Wednesday evening last. Present—Messrs W. S. Maslin (chairman), J. Riordan, J. W. Pje, J. Mundell and N. Dunlop. MINUTES, The minutes o£ the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COEEESPONDBNCE. The committee’s accounts for the year were returned from the auditor as correct.

Prom the S.C. Board of Education, enclosing list of persons nominated for a seat on the board.—lt was decided to vote for the Eev. GK Barclay. Prom the same, stating that the committee’s incidentals for the month had been forwarded; also with regard to the repairs to the fence between Mr Spillane’s property and the hoard’s, t -It was decided that the chairman and Mr Dunlop draw up specifications and call tenders for the fence, and see Mr Spillane re the same. Prom the Timaru committee of the .Bible Society, stating that they had procured 4500 copies of the Jubilee Testament (which bears the Queen’s autograph on the fly leaf) for distriftition among the children attending the public schools in South Canterbury, and requesting the committee to arrange for the distribution of a parcel which had been sent to the Geraldine school.—lt was decided to leave the distribution with the chairman and head master, to take place on some suitable afternoon, the ministers of the various denominations to be notified of the date. HEAD MASTEE’S EEPOET. The head master’s report, which was read, showed that on Monday and Tuesday last the attendance was above 230, and on Wednesday reached 238, the highest the school has ever seen. This was reached without pressure, and Mr Aitken thought that with a little pressure, such as the committee could lawfully use, 10 or 20 more could be got. Mr Aitken pointed out that if 230 were maintained for a quarter the salaries of the whole staff would rise, while if it were kept up for two quarters the school would be entitled to an additional mistress at £BO per year. The report was considered satisfactory, and it was decided that the master should send out notices to the absentees. SCHOOL EEQUISITES. It was decided to write to tme Board of Education re. a globe and set of cards required for use in the school,

VISITORS. The visitors for the month reported everything going on well. Messrs Mundell and Pye were appoited visitors for the ensuing month. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £1 5s were passed for payment and the meeting terminated.
