At Whangarei Pslice Court, Amy Beat, Richard Ellis, Eliza Jane Ellis, and Ellen Ward were charged with the attempted concealment of birth of the illegitimate child of Amy Deat. On account of the weak condition of the latter, the case was adjourned for a week. The offence is alleged to have been' committed on the 27th January. At the Dunedin Police Court on Monday two boys named Madson and a boy named Green were charged with robbing another boy in the street of money he was taking to pay rent. One of the Madsons was under Beven years of age and the charge I was withdrawn. The other two boys were ten yearß of age, and they were sentenced to 14 days' imprisonment with six strokes of the birch. The father of the boys Madson said that when they were recently fined he had saved up £1 to pay it and the boys stole it from him. Nothing has been heard of the young man Robert Home, who mysteriously disappeared from his father's place at Purakanui, Otago, nearly a fortnight ago. A reward of £5 ia now offered for information as to his whereabouts. Hugh and Firilay McLeod, sentenced in the Inveroargill Bankruptcy Court to three months* hard labour for neglecting to keep proper and sufficient books were liberated on Monday, the appeal against the sentence on the ground that His Honor Judge Broad left the Bench before signing the order of commitment being upheld. Mrs Bowlos, who whh severely burnt at Invercargillon Monday morning by her clothes catching fire, died the same night. She was the wife of the son of Mr stationmaeter at Rangiora.
