IRISH AFFAIRS.
London, January 15. Archbishop Croke (R.C.), in the course of an address dealing with the present condition of affairs in Ireland, said that many of the acts of (he soldiery who were assisting in the eviction of tenants cried to heaven for vengeance. Mr John O’Connor, member lor Tipperary S., was arrested to-day at Mayo, County Mayo, charged with an offence under the Crimes Act, He violently resisted the police, and was dragged by them a d : slonce of three miles to gaol. Mr John Dillon. M.P. for Mayo, who is about to sail for the Australian colonies on a lecturing tour, in a farewell speech at the National League Convention at Maryborough, Queen’s County, said (Rat the spirit of the league was unbroken, and that it would he maintained as long ns he and William C’Brien wore alive, ’ January 16. Professor Tyndall, in an article on political topics, asserts that the reckless conduct of Mr Gladstone with regard to tbe Irish question has increased to an enormous extent the difficulty of dealing with social and political problems in the colonies.
