SAMOAN AFFAIRS.
Berlin, January 10. A section of the German Press is urglner the annexation of Samoa, assert, ing that American interests are not sufficient to justify a dispute with Germany. Prince Bismarck is using his influence with the Press to induce it to adopt a pacific tone towards England regarding the Samoan question. The Reiser Zeitnng referring to the recent fight, says the losses are the greatest any German expedition has suffered. The Samoan squadron is to be reinforced, The German Press assort that the Congress Boob recently received from Washington admits that American interests in Samoa do not justify any dispute between the United States and the other Powers with regard to that country. January 12. The German Press assert that steps are being taken to restore order in Samoa. London, January 10. The Financial News says that the Congress Book reveals German intrigues and bluster to secure a monopoly in Samoa. New York, January 11, The Government have ordered three men-of-war to be equipped for service at Samoa and Panama. Washington, January 11. The United States Government are sending another warship to Samoa. January 12. Mr Seville, the American Consul at Samoa, who has been examined at a secret sitting of the Foreign Relations Committee of the Douse of Representatives, stated that if it was not intended to yield to Germany the control of the Samoan group, the Great Powers must take immediate action. He considered that the present division of the Native inhabitants was entirely due to German oppression, and further that it was important that the neutrality of the group be secured. Auckland, January 12. H.M.S. Calliope has been ordered to' Samoa to join the Royalist in watching British interests during the present trouble there. She left for Apia to-day,
