AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held last evening. Present —Messrs E. Lee (Chairman), J. T. M. Hayhurst, and E. Yallander. MINUTES. The minutes of the last meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received From the Clerk to the Geraldine County Council, reminding the Board that their contribution to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, amounting to £3 6s 6i, was due, and requesting that the same might be paid to the Board’s account at the Bank of New Zealand, Timaru.— Passed for payment. From the Crown Lands Office, advising the Board that the sum of £3O 5s had accrued to the Board from sales of land in the distriot from Feb. Ist, 1888, to Oct. 3rd, 3888, and that a voucher for £8 2s 10d, which had been passed for payment, was in the hands of the Receiver of Land Revenue.—The clerk to make farther enquiry re same. From the same, advising that Reserves 2742, 2768, 2769, 2770, 2771, 2795, had been gazetted as temporarily reserved. From the Audit Office, Wellington, enclosing copy of an Order-in-Oouncil dated 2Srd October, 1888, under the provisions of which a demand was made for the sum of £l, being the cost of auditing the Board’s accounts to 31st March, 1888,— Ordered to be paid. INTERVIEW. Mr Ragu Williams waited upon the Board, and requested that a fence erected by Mr Dunn might be removed, or that he, Mr Williams, might be granted permission to fence from the corner of his section to the creek. The Overseer was instructed to write to the Commissioner of Crown Lands, drawing bis attention to the illegal erection of a fence, and requesting his attention to same. OTEESEEI’S BEPOET. The Overseer’s report was read as follows ; “ Gentlemen,— According to your instructions at last meeting I deferred having any work done during the past month. Two water tables leading to Denmark street, part of work authorised, and the filling up of the footpath on the south side of the same street can be completed at any favorable opportunity. The streets generally are in fair repair, but the western portion of Danmark street, leading to the railway station, will shortly require repairs. Some damage was done to an outbuilding of one of the Board’s cottages on New Year’s Eve. The tenant slates that it was the work of larrikins. I await instructions as to repairs.—l am, etc., A. W. Gaze. It was resolved to invite tenders for shingle required, the same to be considered at a special meeting of the Board to be held on Wednesday, Jan. 16tb. The Overseer was instructed to prepare an estimate for a light timber bridge, and submit same at next meeting. RENTS. It was resolved that the clerk be authorised to appear on the Board’s behalf in any cases where summonses had bean issued. ACCOUNTS. Accounts to the amount of £8 13a 5d were submitted and passed for payment. SANITARY. Mr Hayhurst suggested that steps should shortly be taken with the view of combination among the boards in the direction of the appointment of a health officer. The chairman and MrYallendcr agreed, and it was decided to bring the matter up at a future meeting. The Board then adjourned,
