GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
WTUe monthly meeting of this Board was hlmOD Tuesday evening last. Present— Messrs W. S. Maslin (Chairman), A. White, J. Williams, A. oherratt, K, Taylor, and N. Dunlop. 1 minutes. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. COEEESPONDEN CS. Outward correspondence was read and approved of. Inward was read and dealt with as follows: — From the clerk to the South Canterbury Hospital and Charitable Aid Board, with reference to tenders for the supply of rations. „ .... ■, From the Auditor-General, with regard to auditing the Board’s accounts. From the town ranger, giving a list ot cattle impounded from the streets during the month.— The report was considered B&tisf ftctory . From the Board’s solicitors, conveying their opinion as to the legal position of the Board in regard to the water-race they proposed to construct. From Mr E. O’Brien, with regard to the sections leased by him from the Board. —lt was resolved to let the matter remain as it was. otebsbbb’s BEPOET. The' Overseer’s report was read and approved of. . , , It was resolved to inform owners of hackney coaches that their licenses have run out, and request them to see to the matter at once. It was decided that all rates not paid by the end of January should be sued for without fmther notice. asphalting. The question of suing for all moneys owing for asphalt done, cropped up. >r-Mr Sherralt was not in favor of the Board doing asphalt work for private individuals. He did pot approve of the Board placing itself in the position of private contractors. He knew of several parsons who were willing to purchase on asphalting plant and do the woes. If ihe Board lost money through such work the members would be individually responsible to the ratepayers for such money. He moV ed—' 11 That this Board agrees not to enter into any private asphalt work in the (utnfe.” . Jft* White seconded the motion. Mi Dunlop moved as an amendment— That providing the full cost of private work bo paid for in advance the Board continue to do such private work as heretofore.” t . , Upon being put to the vote the amendment was lost by three to two, and the proposition was carried. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £2016s Id wore passed for payment, and the Boaid resolved itself into a ' LOCAL BOARD OP HEALTH. The Inspector of Nuisances’ report was read, but called for no steps being taken, and the meeting terminated.
