The lad Joseph Gardener, who was injured by fcho accident at Talbot*! wool store at Lyttelton on Monday last, died yesterday morning. A three-roomed house in York Place, Dunedin, occupisd by Wilson, hospital wardsitian, was burned down yesterday. Owing to the high wind Wilson's house and two unoccupied houses adjoining were destroyed. Wilson's house was insured for £IOO, and his furniture for £IOO, in the Guardian Office. There was £6O on one of the other houses (belonging to Mrs Hobson) in the National. A heavy shower of hail at nine o'clock yesterday morning whitened the streets of Auckland fmd suburbs. It was pieroing cold for a time. The committee of the Auckland Hospital aDd Charitable Aid Board sat for five hours on Thursday afternoon, dealing with applications froa the unemployed. About a dozen men accepted stone breaking, others work at road formation. A number declined the work offered. The tourist traffic to the hot lakes ia briskly proceeding. Two agencies have announced a series of cheap excursions. The Ministers nhw in the South Island are expected to return to Wellington about the 23rd.
