AROWHENHA TOWN BOARD.
The regular monthly meeting of the Arowhenua Town Board was held last evening. Present Messrs E. Lee (Chairman), J. T. M. Hayhurst, E, Tallender, J. Ash well, and A. Frew. MINUTES. The minstes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. A circular was received from the Hospital and Charitable Aid Department, showing cost of a local case treated at Timarn Hospital.—'To be acknowledged. OTEEIEES’S EEPOET. The Overseer reported as to the best method of draining sections in John St r eet, sod gave estimate ef cost of same. Mr Hayhurst concurred with the Overseer s scheme. It was resolved to let the work stand over for the present. LEVIES OJP TOWNSHIP. The Overseer’s price for taking the levels of the township was considered reasonable, and it was agreed to accept same, the work to be completed within three months, SUBSIDIES. The clerk reported that (be amount advised as being due for subsidy on deferred payment land was not yet to hand. He waa instructed to communicate with the Crown Lands Department and with the Treasury upon the subject. 0 RENTS. The clerk was nuthoiised to sne immediately for unpaid rente of reserve* and cottages, INTERVIEW. Mr Edgelar waited upon the board and requested permission to draw the board’s attention to certain clauses of the Lands Act Amendment Act, under which he considered that the board waa not receiving its full share of subsidies. He read extracts from a leading article in the Press of September 20 bearing upon the subject, and withdrew. Mr Hayhurat considered the thanks of the Board were due to Mr Edgeler for the information supplied. accounts. Accounts to the amount of £4 10s were passed for payment. THE NEW MEMBERS. Messrs Hayhurat and Ashwell stated that at the last meeting they bad doubts as to whether they should continue to sit upon the board. Since then they had received a petition from a number of ratepayers asking them to retain their seats. After due consideration they had decided to do so.
Mr I'rew expressed pleasure at their decision, and the chairman said that ho felt assured that the board as at present constituted would be able to wark harmoniously and in the beat interests of the township. The meeting then termiaated,]
