CONCERT AT ORARI.
A highly successful concert, in aid of the treat and prize fund of the Orari school, was held in the schoolhouse on Thursday evening last. The room was crowded, quite a number having to bo content with standing accommodation. Mr J. C. Binskin, chairman of the School Committee, occupied the chair, and briefly stated the purpose for which the gathering was hold. Tb° Mir* s Gimpson then opened the programme with a pianoforte overture, which was capitally executed , and loudly applauded. Mr Aitken followed with the difficult song, “Hope the Hermit,” which was certainly the best gentleman’s song of the evening, Mr C. 0. McCarthy recited the stirring piece, “The Charge of the Light Brigade,” very graphically, Mrs Burn was very successful with the Scotch song, “ I Loo Nae Laddie but Ain.” “ Hohenliuden ” was recited by one of the pupils, Master George Stewart, in a manner that showed be had not failed lo profit by the carefnl training he had received. Mr Winning rendered the well-known song, “ Our Jack’s Coma Home To-day," excelently. The duet, “ Yery Suspicious, by Mies May and Mr Binskin, caused great amusement, Mr Burn sang the splendid song, “ Qui Yive,” for which h« received a hearty round of applause. A comic recitation in character by Mr Morgan created a hearty laugh. ..Miss Andrews, although suffering from a severe cold, evoked a hearty encore for her rendition of 11 A Bird in the Heind,” and responded with “ The Grey Mare.” The recitation, “ The Two Kittens,” by Miss Barker, one of the scholars, was very nicely rendered indeed. Mr B. Macdonald followed with a comic song, in which be described some of the troubles of a married man. Owing to having a severe cold he did not respond to the encore which followed. A ten minutes interval having elapsed, the Misses Gimpson contributed another enjoyable pianoforte overture. Mr Winning,, who followed, was very successful with the song, “ Nil Desperandnm.” Mr Aitken quite took the house by storm with a comic recitation. He was succeeded by Miss Andrews, who was again very successful with the song, “ KafiVs Letter.” Master MoLeod gave the recitation, “ The Fall of Daessa,” in a natural, easy, and telling manner. The duet, “No, Sir,” by Mies Gimpson and Mr Binskin was heartily applauded, as was also Mrs Burn’s song, “ Coming Thro' the Rye.” Mr McCarthy rendered the Shakespearian piece, “Hubert and Arthur,” very tragically, and was heartily applauded for In's successful! rendition of such a very difficult piece. Mr B, Macdonald followed with another comic song, for which he was applauded. Miss Maggie Allan gave a capital recitation, the name of which we missed. Mr Barn followed with the well-known Scotch song, Duncan Gray,” which was also loudly applauded. Mr Binskin concluded the programme with the comic song “Tommy Top Weight,” which was well received. This concluded the programme. The accompanists were Misses Andrews, Gimpson (2), and Mrs Burn. Mr J. A. Fitzgerald, master of the school, in a neat speech brimming over with humor, proposed a very hearty vote of thanks to the performers who had assisted the committee that evening. The rote being carried by acclamation the singing of the National Anthem closed the concert. An enjoyable dance was held afterwards, the music being supplied by Mr J. Figoni, Mr J. C. Binskin acting as M.C.
