TEMUKA F. GERALDINE.
A match was played in the park, Temuka, on Saturday, between an eleven of Geraldine and the local club. Tha day was fine but cold and not by any means a favorable one for the game. The pitch was in fair order, and played better than was expected. In the course of the afternoon there was a fair attendance of spectators, and more interest was displayed in the game than is generally the case. Brown wen the toss for Temuka, and elected to bat first. His men were all disposed of for 48 runs, the only ones to make a stand being Hurst and Ogilvie, who by careful play put together eleven each. Bryars, who was just getting set was neatly caught by Fitzgerald from Fish’s bowling. W, Storey also displayed good form. After an interval for refreshments, which were kindly supplied by lady friends of the club, the Geraldine men went to the wickets, H. Mappison and F. Fish being opposed to the bowling of Hayhurst and Ogilvie. The fourth ball from Hayhurst sent Mappison back to the pavilion. His place was taken by B. Macdondald, and his partnership with Fish was not dissolved until 23 runs were scored, of which Fish contributed 8, when he was smartly caught by Thomson. H. W. Moore, who succeeded him, played excellent cricket for 16, when be succumbed to Thomson’s bowling, Macdonald, who was caught by Gaz* at square-leg, having been in the meantime been mmceeded by H. Temple. Wickets mow fell quickly, five, six and seven falling without any addition to the score, which stood at 47. Ward, the. eight man made 4 singles, while G. Slack played a merry innings for 11, when be was caught by Bryars. The innings closed for 65 runs, la the second innings the Temuka men showed somewhat better form. Bryars made 27 runs very neatly, his score comprising three 3’s, four 2’s and ten singles. None of the remainder secured double figures. Two men remained to bat when time was called, the innings closing for 60 runs. Mr J. Heap umpired for Temuka, and Mr W. Dyson for Geraldine. The following are the scores :
