The Maori Murray nn _ a t the Christchurch Police Court on Thursday, and committed for trial for breaking into the house of Hunt, a labourer at Riccartofi, and stealing a cap, coat, trousers and razor. He was also sentenced to three months’ hard labour for his first escape from Addington, and nine months tor the second escape, the sentences to be cumulative. He made no defence, but said that the first time he escaped, the warder left the door open after putting bis tea into tbe cal). The second time he bad told the gaoler he intended to escape, and did so just to show that he could. A large crowd assembled in the courthouse to see the prisoner,—On Saturday Murray was committed for trail at the Kaiapci Resident Magistrate’s Court for breaking into the Mandeville Hotel.
Mr J. C. Boys is gazetted a member of the Land Board of Canterbury district. The s.s. The bunt was commenced, «nd at eleven o’clock the warders unexpectedly landed on him, about five miles from the gaol, and by 12,3 d the prisoner was sufo in his c<ll again. This is the second from this gaol, though the building is quite new and is supposed to be built according to the latest designs.
