AUCTIONEERS' REPORT. TIMARU. Messrs Grade, Maclean and Adam report for the past fortnight, ending Saturday, as follows: — Horses—At the Timaru Horse Bazaar last Saturday and to-day our entries were small, and the quality of both draught and light horses only medium. We have enquiries for good heavy draughts, and also for harness horses and weight carriers. We quote medium draughts at £l6 to £23 10s, aged and inferior £lO to £l3. Hacks; Medium, £lO to £l4 10s ; light and weedy, I>4 to £7. Sheep—At Wash dyke business has been confined chiefly to fat sheep, and of these there have been barely enough forward to meet the local requirements, consequently full prices have been maintained. We sold on account of Messrs J. Divan, E. Holland, A. Grant, M. Quinn, and W. Grant—l 27 fat 2-tooths (shorn) at 10s Id, 9p wethers in wool at 15s 6d, 105 2-tooths (shorn) at 8s 6d, 46 ewes at 9s 6d, 31 ewes and lambs at 14s 4d
per couple, and privately wo have placed 3000 merino ewes, 1000 2-tooth merinos, and 360 crossbred hoggets. Pigs—A fair demand for well-grown stores, with but few offering. We sold 15s slips at 10s to 13s 6d.
CHRISTCHURCH GRAIN MARKETS.
Cheistchttech, Nov. 26. Some phenomenal rises in produce are reported. Oats are wanted for Sydney market, and 4s 2d f.0.b., is the price obtained for best quality. Barley, beans, and fodder of all kinds are also in demand. Ffteen thousand bushels of wheat wore sold on Saturday at 4s 3d, f 0.b., sacks extra.
WOOL SALES AT CHRISTCHURCH.
The first series of wool sales opened at Christchurch on Saturday, when 1125 were offered. The Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, the National Mortgage and Agency Company, and the Farmers’ Co-operative Association sold. Half bred wool brought Bfd to 9|d. per lb; merino, best, to 9£d; locks and pieces, 4id to 6|d. The highest price was 9f d, realised for first cross wool grown at Chertsey. Competition was spirited, and prices Id per lb better than last year’s opening sales.
GRAIN SALES AT DUNEDIN. At a grain sale at Saturday there was a further advance in prices, especially in oats, one prime lot of milling realising 4s Id per bushel ex store; prices ranging between that and 3s 6d. Prime tuscan wheat realised 4s 9d.
ENGLISH MARKETS, London, November 23. Australian mutton, 4d; beef unchanged. Freights to Sydney, Adelaide, and Melbourne, have been raised 2s 6d. Tallow —Mutton, 34s to 34s 6d; beef, 33s to 33s 6d. Sugar, German beet, 13s. Hides, 4d to 4id. 175 cases of kauri gum have been sold at auction, the prices obtained being generally cheaper, A cargo of wheat by the barque Largo Bay, from Lyttelton, has been sold at 39s 9d. New Zealand long berried wheat, ex store, is selling at 44s 3d. Business is very restricted. Cargoes in iron bottoms are quoted at 41s 3d. The market is recovering. English wheat is heavy and inactive. The Continental market shows a general decline, and the American is also declining with increasing weakness. Forward business is weak, the arrivals of foreign wheat being very large. The money market is firm, owing to large withdrawals of gold for export. There has been a general advance of 2d in rabbit skins.
