COMMERCIAL.
CHRISTOHUBOH CORN EXCHANGE. The Corn Exchange report for weekending Friday, Nov. 16ih, 1888 s Mark Lane wheat advioss continue reassuring, New Zealand having now reiohed 44s per quarter. The local market ia well supplied, bat at the moment sellers' and buyers' views are rather wide, conscquaotly not so muoh business has been transacted during the past week, although several large lines are now pending. The drought in Australia has brought a Btrorig demand for oats, which have hardened considerably during the past fortnight, and large shipments are being made to Melbourne. The weather has been favorable to the young orops, and from the country districts we hear exoellonfc reports. Wheat—A few small lines have ohanged hands, tuaoan still holding the premier position, and is worth 4i Id 5 pearl and hunters vary according to quality from 3s lid to 4s; tecond quality and ohior wheat is in strong dsmand, and it is herd to obtain at 3s 6d to Sj 8d for whole, and 3s to 3s 2d for good broken. Oats have a strong demand at 2« 6d for heavy milling, and 2s 4d for good short feed 5 second quality are in better favour at 2s id to 2a 3d. Barley is practioally out of tbe market, and the same remark applies to peas and beans. Byegraes is veiy quiet, only small lines of machine-dressed being placed at 2i 6i to 2s 9d. Occksfood is quiet, although heavy clean seed would oommadd up to 3id. Potatoes have gone up with a sudden jump, and are worth 55s to £3 at country stations. There are, however, very few offering. Dairy Produce—The enquiry from Sydney has had a hardening tendency, and butter (prime) can be placed at 7d to Bd. The above prices are those paid to farmers for delivery f.0.b., sacks extra.
CHRISTOHUBOH STOCK MABKETS. At the Addington Yards on Wednesday heavy entries of fat cattle were yarded, and moderate entriesof stores. Fairly good supply of fat sheep, and a good entry of stores. Fat Cattle—A heavy entry, quality varied, but principally good. Priceß had a downward tendenoy. Steers sold at from £6 10* to £9 12s 6i for heavy weights; medium, £5 2j 6d to £6 5s J heifers and tat oows, from £3 10s to £6 2s 6d, being at 16s to 19a per 1001 - , tut Veal Calves—A very large entry, Best calves, 12s to 19j 5 inferior, 5s to 7s. Store Cattle—Two year-old steers sold at £2 6s j mixed fcwo-year-olds, £2 2s 6d; yearlings, 20s to 275; Btoro cows at from £2 5s to£3l2>6d. Dairy Cattle—A large entry. Goad cows near oalving sold at from £5 to £6 10j ; second rate, £3 to £4. Fat Sheep—A fairly good entry, the quality being on the whole first rate. Prices rote abjutlsperbead. Crossbred wetbers in the wool sold at from 15j to 17s; merino wethers from 12s 9d to 14i 3d ; shorn wethers sold at from 10j 3i to 12* 9d j ditto ewes, 7s 9d to lis 9d, being for sheep in the wool up to 3d per lb, shorn ditto 2i to 2|d, Store Sheep- A full market, Hoggets, m wool, at 9s 7a'; shore do, 5j 6d to 8j 3i ; ewes »nd l&mbs, to 14s. Fat Lambs—Beet sorts told at from 8a to 8b 9d ; medium up to 7s 3d. Pigs—Late rate*- quite maintained. Porkers 20ito29a,fully3idperlb.
