GOVERNORSHIP OF QUEENS. LAND.
Adblaide, November 9. Sir Thos. Mcllraith, the Premier, has mfornied Lord Knutaford, the Secretary for the Colonies, that the appointment of Sir A. H. Blake to the Governorship of Queensland has caused great dissatisfaction and indignation. London, November 9. Lord Knutsford, the Secretary for the Colonies, is much irritated at the interference of Sir Thos. Mcllraith with the selection of the Governor of Queensland, and he has expressed his determination to retain full responsibility, and resent any dictation on the part of the Premier of Queensland. Lord Knutsford considers it would be better to abolish the Colonial Office altogether if its only important funotion is to bo abrogated. The Daily Chronicle, commenting on the question, condemns Lord Knutsford's aotion in refusing what it terms " Queensland's reasonable request," and says it is quite time that the Colonial Office recognised the right of the Colonial Governments to have a voice in the selection of the Governors. The Daily Chronicle says Lord Knutsford's refusal of the request of the Premier of Queensland for a voice in the selection of Governor will hinder the cause of Federation.
In the House of Commons the question of Sir H. A, Blake's appointment to the (Governorship of Queensland was brought ap by the Right Ron. E. C. E. Childers and Mr Henniker Heaton. Baron DeWorms. replying to those eentlemen, said that he was confident that the House and also the Press would suppori the appointment made by the Colonial Office, despite the objections raised by Sir Thomas McHr«itb, Premier of Queensland, On the motiou of Mr W. A.. Macarthur, member for Standi, farther discussion on the qn«sfion was postponed until Monday. November 10.
