Mrs Kendall and two boys were drowned by »ha capsizing of u small sailing boat on tb.3 river at VYanganoi on Friday. The boat contained a party of eight, of whom two were women and the reßt young people, coming up the river picnikioar. When close in shore, near the railway i , ridg rt , a squall upsot the boat. Two young men named Alt'. Gray and tUusom, in mi outrigger boat, with a party .of ladles, managed to rescue five who clung to thfi bottom of the overlurn.'d boat, but MrN Kendall and two of the boys never came to tia smface. Wher« the boat went, over there was only soma four or five foet of water, but the wind was ao strong that it • was impossible for the victims ef the accident to k'-ep their feet. A Chinese, named Liaa Cnung, residing in a Chinese fruit shop at the corner of Hope and S'afford streets, Dunedin, was found on Thursday evening in a room which he occupied. Deceased had been in ill-health, and was under mediol treatment.
A mm named William Heaphy was killed while bush-falling, on Friday at Ha'combe, Wellington. He leaves a wife and family. A ntbbiter named Cornelius Coughlan w;is accidentally shot (lead by his brother William, whle out rabbiting at Fui'fax, Otago, on the 6th. A serious shooting accident occurred on Saturday afternoon which is likely to have a fatal result. Two yoang mon, nnmed Georgo Black a*>d Irvine, son of General Irvine, ware out rabbit shooting at <¥haro Flat, near Dunedin. Black wai knteliug down and Irvine was liri'ig over his head vhe i Black suddenly jumped up and rece v-xi a charge in the back of the head. After some trouble he was taken to the Hosp tal, where it was found thit the skull was bidly fractured. An operation was performed when it was found that the brain iidsu- wis bcerated and there ib no hope of recovery. B'ack is abont 18 years of age.
