Information has been received from Port Darwin to the effect that the Sherrard Osborne, cable repairing steamer, did not break the new cable whilst grappling as was at first: supposed, the steamer was not working at the time tba cable parted. The ends of the old cable have been buoyed. ' Hobart, October 12. A deputation of stock owners wpked upon the Government suggesting! that the New Zealand Government should be asked to extend the quarantine period for cattle imported from other colonies from one to six months. The Premier is in communication with New Zealand on the subject.
