AROWHENUA TOWN BOARD.
The monthly meeMng of the Arowhenna Town Board was hold last night. Present —Messrs Lee (Chairman), Frew, Edgeler, Vallender, and Bryan, MINUTES. The minutes of the previous meeting were read and confirmed. CORRESPONDENCE. Correspondence was received and dealt I with as follows : From Dr J. S. Hayes, drawing attention to the want of drainage from the reserve occupied by him.—The Overseer to report. A circular was received from the Property Tax Commissioner, drawing attention to clause 7 of the Crown and Nstive Lands Bating Act Repeal Act, 1888, and pointing out that the clause referred to must be complied with before any moneys could be piid by Qovarament in respect of native lands. The monthly return of payments made In connection with the Timarn Hospital was received.. OVERSEER’* REPORT. The overseer made a verbil report. There were no urgent works required. CHARITABLE AID, MrYallender drew attention to a case of hardship in the township. A resident incapacitated by severe illness from working required additional aid. The person referred to was, when in health, a good worker, and would be prepared to surrender any claim npon the department as soon as ever ha was able. —The c'erk was instructed to write to the Hospital and Charitable Aid Department on the subject. RENTS. The Clerk -was authorised to sue, if necessary, for outstanding rents, SIISCELLANEOTTB. Mr Edgeler drew attention to a case in which a reserve had been fenced on a wrong boundary. The section in question was u corner one, and the proper angles had not been observed.—On the motion of Mr Frew, the Clerk was instructed to notify to the occupier the error, and have it corrected. The Clerk was instructed to write to the Treasury Department re balance of subsidy not to hand. Mr Vallender said that he had been I asked to draw the Board’s attention to the inconvenience caused by the closing of the railway gates at night,—lt was resolved that the Clerk writs to theTemuka Town Board with the view of securing their co-operation in arranging for some alteration. WATER SUPPLY.
Mr Vallender asked if anything had been done in the matter of arranging for a water-supp'y for the Fire Brigade.— The Chairman said the matter had been brought up some time previously, and the Board then had deferred consideration of it. It was no doubt well that inquiry should be made into it.—After some discussion Mr Edgsler moved, and it was carried—“ That the clerk write to the Fire Assurance Association for information as to the possibility of obtaining a subsidy for the Brigide, or co-operation in sinking wells.” ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £26 12s lOd were submilted for payment, and the Board then adjourned.
