[Concerning Sarle. an Ar.s'ra'i.m contemporary of September 22n , sajs : —'• Henrv Searle if «1 e CnMice J{iv r has fl»Cfd himself in the very first rink of Austra'iin scu!!< n by liN pbsj victory over Chris. Neilsou last Friday, 14th inst. NVilson appears to have b'en beaten after the first quarter of a mile, for which distance the pace was a cracker. E'rv 'i -trokes were taken by each sculler in the first fifteen seconds—44 strokes per minute, but this was not kept up long, nor was it needed by Searle, lie spurted away from Neilson whenever he liked, and won by five lengths in 21min 34|sec. Searle is really a young wonder, and must within a year or two be a formidable rival to Kemp. Already an offer has been msde to back bim against Hanlan, and it is not unlike y that a much will be made between them after the champion race has been rowed. Searle is remarkably strong and active for his weight—list 6lb—but he has a fault of rowing with a bent right arm, which will tell sgainst bis staying powers when he may find an opponent to pace with him.
