GERALDINE TOWN BOARD.
Ths first meeting of the newly-e'sotsd members of this Board was held on Tueiday treeing last, Prtient—Maaars J. Mundell, W. S, Maslin, R. Taylor, N. Dunlop, J. Williams, A. Sherratt, sod A. White. ~ EMOTION or CHAIKJtiK. The first business was the election of a Chairman,Mr Maslin being returned. Mr Maslin returned thanks to the members for the honor they bad done him. Mr Taylor said he hoped that at all future meetings of the Board whatever was done in committee would bo kept strictly private, and not carried outside, a« had been frequently done during the term of the late Board. Members agreed with Mr Taylor that such a practice was very undesirable. HINDUS. The minutes of the last meeting of the old Board were then read and confirmed, COBKESrONDENCB. Outward correspondence was read and approved of. Inward wae read as follows ~. From Mr W. Flemming, Geraldine, submitting a plan of a new building he wished to erect on the main street. It was decided to allow applicant to erect the building as in terms of his letter, the front of the building to comp up to the footpath. The ranger's report giying the cattle found wandering on the streetsduring the month, wae laid upon the table. The Manaia Town Board wrote asking what steps had been taken to obtain separation of Town Boards from tb« control of County Councils. It was-decided to inform the Board mentioned that no steps had been taken. Mr T. Asher asked to have e woeden crossing put down in front of bis property. —Not entertained. Messrs Webster and Macdonald wrote asking the Board to asphalt the footpath in front of their new auction room in Peel street, and offering to pay half the ••si. Decided to do the work according to tbs terms of applicants' letter. Mr B. O’Brien again wrote asking to have the road leading to his property made passable. If the work wae not done be would have to lay the matter before •nother authority. The matter was dealt with in the overseat’s report. The returning officer laid upon the table the result of the recent election. otxksxib’i height. The overseer’s report was read and dealt with ae follows l—t< j bSVe the honor to report tor your information that the kerbiug and asphalt is now all completed with the exception of s little hand floating in places. I have done several small jobs for private individuals, namely—Messrs B. Proutmg, J Huffey", Win. Coltman, A. fchmntt, und W* S. Maslin, and will make np their Several accounts, and furnish them at once. Mr T, Finch has applied to me for pome asphalt to be done rourd hi* premises, and Messrs Webster aal Mapdooald’s will be completed at once.
There are a few places along the n d asphalt that reqti'ro hand floating. Wp have plenty of t«r &c., to do the work, if the B°ard will aulhori-o it to be done. The footpath and the centre of the road have been completed on the road leading to Mr Dickens’. Jravel has bean put upon the footpaths ia front of Mesera Monisen’s, Burridge a, Bowketi’a, Pratt’s, Heney’s, and others, and the ruts have been filled in in front <f Messrs G. Ward’s and Lysaght’s sections The footpaths where the new saphalt and kerbing has been done, have been levelled, filled up and gravelled. Me Barker street—l cannot recommend any outlay at present. The applicant has a very fair passable road to his land. Work near Mr Baughen’a will bo done at once. Receipts for the month have been , rate account, £l2 6s 3d ; current account, £5 16s, which have been paid into the Board's account. “C. B. Shbriuxx, "Overseer.” ASFHALTIN*. It was decided to continue asphalting on private property if the application was properly made, and the person applying paid the full cost of the same. It was also decided to do the floa.mg mentioned in the Overseer’s report. "LAMPS, Mr Williams brought before the Board the fact of a lamp r post being considerably within the edge of the footpath. It was decided to move the same to the kerbing. It was also decided to remove two other lamps from the east to the west side of the street. ACCOUNTS. Accounts amounting to £B4 13s 3d were passed for payment. WORKS COMMITTEE. Messrs Williams, White, Sherratt, and the chairman were appointed a works committee. FINANCE COMMUTES. Messrs White, Dunlop, Maslin, and Mundell were appointed a finance com" mittee. LOCAL BOARD OP HEALTH. A meeting of the above Board was then held. INSPECTOR OF NUISANCES’ REPORT. The inspector of nuisances’ report was read, but no action was necessitated, and the Board adjourned.
