Melbourne, September,2B. Railway returns just published Isbow that the revenue for the year exceeded the expenditure by one million. * Arrived—Wairarapa. Sydney, September 28. Sailed—Rotomahana. September 29. The Cabinet have had under consideration another petition praying for the release of Holt, ex-manager of the Bank of New Zealand, as an act of clemency in centennial year. Ministers failed to see any ground for his exceptional treatment, and declined tfi set Holt free; £5400 was distributed to-day to miners on strike, the rale being £1 per per bead. Perth, September 28. News has reached here that several immense nuggets, from one hundred to a hundred and sixty ounces each, have been found at Pilburn Creek, where indications of a splendid reef have been discovered. Very rich specimens have been picked up in the locality, with lumps of gold protruding, and a rush has set in.
