ALLEGED ATTEMPTED HUSBAND MURDER.
t Thames,, September 24 Mary Davies was charged at the Police Court to-day with assaulting her husband, W m. Davies, on the 18fch August, with intent to kill and murder him. Mr H. "W. Northeroffc, E.M., presided. Sergeant Murphy * conducted the case for the prosecution and Mr Lusk appeared for the defence. » ¥m. Davies, who has been in the hospital for the past five weeks, and , who hls;only just recovered sufficiently 1 to give evidence- in Court, deposed to having returned home about nine o’clock on the evening of the day in lv question, and that he undressed and went to bed. He fell asleep. He had not; bben sleeping more than a short time'when he was awakened by ‘ a blow on the head. He did not remember anything further until he recovered consciousness, a day or two after,in the hospital. He had been drinking during the day of the assault and threatened to “ jaw ” his wife when he went home Minnie Baxter, servant in the employ of Davies, gave evidence as to hearing him and his wife quarrelling %nd as to his having accused his wife of being unfaithful to.him. . John Lloyd deposed to being sent for. shortly before midnight by Mr Davies, -and to finding Davies on the t bed,with his head hacked about, the’wo\irids having been inflicted with a tomahawk. Dr Kelly, who attended the injured man, said he found seventeen wounds on the man’s head. Constable Stapleton, sworn, deposed y to arresting, accused, wbo said she had intended to kill her husband, The cast occupied until 5 o’clock, when his worship intimated that as he should ciall upon Mr Lusk to reply, he would adjourn the case until the 3rd of October, that being the earliest dattf on which he could take the case.
