AUCTIONEERS’ REPORT. TIMARU. Mr Moss Jonas reports for the past fortnight as follows: — Newmarket yards.—At this sale on the 18th, large entries came forward consisting of 1281 sheep and 177 head of cattle, all of which were sold with the exception of one line of 194 ewes and lambs, and 7 head of cattle. The attendance was large, fully 250 people being present. He sold 659 2-tooths at 12s Bd, 162 2-tooth ewes and wethers at 13s 6d, 79 do. at 14s, 59 ewes and wethers at 14s 9d, 115 hoggets at lls Bd, 157 fat ewes at 12s 7d, and 48 ewes in lamb at lls 9d, 55 steers at £3 ss, 50 do. at £2 15s, 1 10 steers and heifers at £5 4s, springers at £4 and £4 10s, 1 fat heifer at £7 2s 6d, 16 18-month-old steers at £1 lls, 27 yearlings at £l2s, and 5 pigs at £1 18s. Winchester—-A fair entry c'ame forward on the 11th inst., and were sold as follows: —40 fat sheep at 14s, 3 heifers at £2 ss, 1 do. at £2 Is, and 2 cows at £8 10s.
Washdyke Tarda —At this sale on the 20th he sold 30 fat sheep at 14s 2d, J 2 heifers at £6 7s 6d, 1 at £5 7s 6d, 2 steers at £2 10s, 1 cow at £2 2s, and 2 yearlings at 17s. Sheepskins and Wool—About 2300 skins have passed through his hands during the fortnight, and some grand lines were submitted, as will be seen from the following prices:—Butchers’ crossbreds 6s to 6s 6d; ditto merinos 8s 8d to 2s 9d. Country skins — Crossbreds 6s, to 2s 6d, and down to Is 3d, according to quality; merinos from Is lOd to 2s Bd, pelts 2d to 9d, lambs Is 4d to 2s Id; 1 bag fleece 6f d per lb, I do. pieces at 4£dper lb,, 1 do. fleeces at 7d per lb., and privately 14 bags merino skins at 6d per lb. Hides—Owing to the depressed state of the bide and leather markets, hides have suffered a decline, and may now be quoted at —Heavy weights 3*d per lb., medium 2fd to 3d per lb„ cut or damaged per lb., bulls’ hides 12s 6d, calfskins (sound) 4d per lb., cut or damaged l|d per lb.. Fat—Rendered up to 12a 6d per cwt., butchers’ and rough from 6s to 10s per cwt. TIMARU MARKETS. , Wheat—Quotations are : Prime milling velvet and tuscan, 3s 6d ; red chaff, 3s sd; squarehead, 8s 3d; whole fowl whefct,. scarce at 2s 6d to 2a 9d; broken do, 2s to 2s 6d. Oats Prime milling, 2a; good short feed, Is lOd to 2s; heavy danish, Is 9d to la 10d; fair average; Is 8d to Is 9d. Barley—3s 6d to 8s 8d for prime' quality malting. Potatoes—Potatoes may be quoted at 70s per ton, sacks weighed in. EN9LI3B MARKETS. i Loxdon, September 21. At to-day’s wool sales 10,000 bales were catalogued. Scoured merinos sold at from |d to Id dearer. With the exception of New Zealand lots locks were weaker. ' Greasy was a, gd dearer, and inferior scoured crossbreds 5 declined a id. The tallow market is firm; best mutton, 27s 6d to 28s ; beef, 27s to 27s 6d. Hides, 3£d to 4d perlb; sheepskins from Id to 2d advance. An Adelaide wheat cargo has been ■old at 38s 6d. September 22.' At the wool sales to-day 12,000 bales were sold. Bar silver, is quoted at 3s B£d. Oopperj £93 10s. The English wheat crop is quoted at 6s below the old crop.
