MOUNT PEEL ROAD BOARD.
The monthly meeting of this Board was..held in the Road Board office, Peel Eorest, on the 21st inst. Members present- —The .Hon. J. B. A. Acland ; (chairman), and Messrs R. Mackay, G. J. Dennistoun, C. G. rrijfp, and R. Thaw. , ..MINUTES.,: . The minutes of the' last meeting were read and confirmed. ~ COBEESPOIOIBirCE, A letter <was read from the District Land Registry Office,; Christchurch, intimating that the Crown grant for? section No. 35713 'was prepared. —The chairman was requestcd~to receive the deed when next in Christchurch. APPLICATION. Mr Thew made’application to have the!ford at Sowerby’s corner lowered. —The Overseer was directed to hare the 1 work done. THE TIMAETJ HOSPITAL. Proposed by Mr Dennistoun, seconded by the chairman, and carried —“That, the Mount Peel Road Board beg to call the attention of the Hospital and Charitable Aid Board to the great hardships "inflicted on thehardworking laboring classes by the extreme charges which they are now demanding for residence'in the Timaru Hospital, namely, 35s per week. The Board would point out that it is impossible for a man earning 80s per week to pay 355, and besides this keep' his children; in fact, it is clear that in" such a case a man would be entitled to assistance from the Charitable Aid Board for the support of his family.”
NOTICE OV MOTION, Mr Thew proposed as a notice of motion for next ordinary meeting—- “ That tenders be called for the maintenance of all roads in the Raincliff and Sherwood Downs district,” ACCOUNTS. After passing accounts to the amount of £143 9s, the meeting adjourned.
