UPPER WAITOHI SCHOOL.
TO THE EDITOR. Sib, —With reference to the report of the meeting of the Upper Waitohi School Committee published in your issue of the Bth instant, it would appear that the Committee unauirrously declined to pay the £6 10s due to the Education Board on account of the teacher's salary. This is not so. The fact is that there were only six members preient. The undersigned three members voted in favor of sending the money to the Board of Education, but the Chairman gave his casting vote against paying, and therefore a resolution to the effect that the money should not be paid was carried. The Board having already resolved to defer dealing with the teacher until the end of the year, we did not think it necessary to enter a protest against the proceedings, as we felt the Board would know exactly how to treat such an insult to its authority. As no one h»s hitherto taken the trouble to communicate to the Press the proceedings of our Committee, it struck us as rather suspicious thst this matter should have been reported, more especially as it does not appear a very creditable thing for a public body to repudiate a just debt, and consequently we deem it incumbent upon us to disclaim any responsibility for it.—We are, etc., Maek Seales. James Matthews. W. S. Pearse.
