THIS MEETING AT ORARI.

TO THE EDITOR. Sie, —In your report of the proceedings of the meeting of ratepayers held in the Belfield sehoolhouse on the evening of Saturday last I am made to say " that there could be no special rate struck without a vote of of the ratepayers being taken." 1 his is an error. What I did say was " that a Board of Conservators could not borrow money without the consent of a majority of the votes of the ratepayers." It is also an error to state that I quoted Mr Burnett as having said the Government would do nothing. I said " that from all I can learn the Government will not do anything." Your insertion of the above will greatly oblige, yours, etc., John Muebay. Orari Station, Sept. 11,1888.
